Lubrication Procedure

High Speed Handpieces

How Often: After Each Use

  1. Remove handpiece from delivery unit and clean with alcohol. DO NOT use cleaners, place in ultrasonic unit or use disinfectants. This will cause damage to the handpiece.
  2. With the burr inserted, place lubricant (2-3 drops) into the air intake and run on purge unit for 5-10 seconds. Remove burr. This will clean and lubricate handpiece. DO NOT leave Midwest levers open.
  3. Autoclave.
  4. After autoclaving, allow the unit to cool gradually back to room temperature. DO NOT RUN UNDER COOL WATER.

Slow Speed Handpieces

How Often: After Each Use

  1. Remove handpiece from unit tubing and clean with alcohol. DO NOT use harsh cleaning agents, place in ultrasonic unit or autoclave, or spray with disinfectant. Wipe with moist towel.
  2. Place 2-3 drops of lubricant into inlet of handpiece and run for 30 seconds to flush the handpiece of excess oil.

Autoclaving for High Speed Handpieces

How Often: After Each Use

  1. Remove burrs. Lever operated chucks must be closed.
  2. Handpiece paper bags should be used.
  3. Autoclave.
  4. Remove from bag and air dry. If kept in bag, DO NOT stack. Place on towel to cool and dry before storing. Plastic bags are not recommended. Single sided plastic is ok if left to dry and cool with paper side up.

To maintain your handpieces, we recommend the use of MHR LUBRICANT DROPS instead of spray.
